Guys i need your help please i took Maxi to the vet today he told me he is healthy and fine he clipped his wings and gave him an antibiotic injection just in case and another injection for Scabies, have you ever gave that for ur grey? He also said in 15 days he should take another one and in 10 more days again, its a cycle of 3 times injection.. Since i got him home he stood on the top of the cage and slept directly though he doesn't sleep infront of us.. And he slept too early.. I called again to make sure it is normal, the vet said its because he was stressed and we made him those injections at once so tomorrow he will be okay.. What do you think? Iam kind of worried.. Please answer asap

Did he show you signs of scabies? Scabies is the mite that causes mange in animals with fur. In people you can see the mites burrowing in the skin. They are very itchy, is he biting at his legs? The treatment for scabies/mites/mange in humans and in dogs & cats is topical not an injection. I"m sure the stress of traveling and being handled by a stranger would put a lot of pressure on him. I would question the vet as to why he thinks the bird needs anti-biotics and scabies treatment. Ask him to show you the signs that the bird is ill and requires treatment. This way you'll know for the future what to watch for and get confirmation as to what exactly is being treated and why. There are many people with more experience with birds than I. I have a human medical background but I think that you should never accept a treatment from anyone without knowing what they're treating and why they think you have a need to be treated.

I really don't know why the vet is giving him all these injections, especially giving injections to a healthy bird "just in case".

I'm not sure why you took Maxi to get injections when that may have been the reason you lost Koukou. Please do not take him back to that vet.
I would never let a vet inject a healthy bird. Birds are very sensitive creatures and there are no injections that have been extensively evaluated for African Grey parrots.

At this point, if he is sleeping in front of you, he may not be doing so well from the injections.
Don't take him back to that vet. Leave him be and make sure he has access to food and water and make sure his cage is in an area with a relatively stable temperature (no wind). Hopefully he can make it through. You'll find out quickly enough.

As the others have said, don't take Maxi back to that vet. He doesn't need routine injections. You are trying to get Maxi to love you. He won't be happy with you for taking him for injections he doesn't need. Nurture him with food and things to play with.

If you watch them together and they get along fine, then it is probably fine to put them together in one big cage. My two birds are in a cage 3' x 6' x 7'.
My birds don't get along very well, but enough to be in the same cage. It took about 3 years of training to get to the point where I could put them together in a cage without them hurting each other. It was a slow process, but I had Manzi for many years before I got Maui.
Since both your birds are new, they might get along more easily.
A risk you are taking with two birds is that they will bond to each other and then both may dislike you with you never being able to hold or scratch either one. Still, if you are not around them all day, then the company may be nice for them.

Yeah I thought about that, do you think I should put each in a room when i'm at home? I wasn't planning on getting another one I went to get toys and I just fell in love with a young one he is adorable and he doesn't growl as much as maxi, and BTW I see they imitate each other a lot , and about their gender I'm planning later on to do DNA test but until then does the age n gender difference matter between them? Please give me suggestions how to make them bond to me before each other. Thanks Adele

Hi iam having trouble with Maxi.. Im so stressed out because of that.. I think i made a mistake.. When he is on top of his cage he sneaks out to eat and drink and whenever i feel he did i go and close the top right away.. Since yesterday he is on top he didnt eat all day and today as well i gave him almonds n water a bit he drank but not enough and he wont go inside at all.. Is it wrong that ian closing his cage everytime he goes inside? Tomorrow iam going to have my brother put him in but im planning to keep him inside for a while at least until he gets used to us.. It's like he prefers his freedom than drinking and eating.. I dont know..

I would prefer my freedom as well!
Why do you lock him in every time he goes inside his cage?
How much time do you spend by his cage talking to him? Have you tried offering fresh fruits, like strawberries, bananas, etc.?
It seems like you're not making progress with Maxi. These guys are really smart. You need to show him that he can trust you to love him completely and that you are a "safe" and "forever" home. Once you earn that trust, then I think he'll start coming along.

Yes i do sit next to his cage and talk and simg to him and he is calm when i'm near and always calmer with me than other family members that's why i feel there is a bit of progress, i do close his cage everytime he goes down because when he is up he doesnt go inside until night which is bed time for him and i feel better when he is inside during his sleep time it is safer for him.. I dont try to towel him myself first because im scared i'd hurt him and second i dont want him to be afraid of me more.. But i'm scared of letting him out again.. I dont know how to get him inside if i did.
