Hey guys thanks for the advices.. I was wondering about something.. I always put a cover on Maxii's cage at night and during the day i remove half of it.. Sometimes he just freaks out and starts moving and do the bird's talk and i guessed this was because of some owners near me have parrots as well.. Tonight he did that as well but he freaked more when the cover slipped and i sat next to him i put it again and now he is calm.. Im not sure what is the cause of his freaking out and does the feathers thingy as if ready to fly i think there is more possibility he is hearing other parrots and wants to get out of his cage.. What do you thnk? And do you think it is normal when he does that?

Greys can be very nervous and can get agitated if something unusual happens such as the cover slipping. They can be wary of anything new as well. It can take them a while to get used to things.

If I brush past my sweet Chy's cage while she is covered for the night, it would cause her to jump off her perch. They are always ready in case of danger even when they are falling asleep. Lots of things make them nervous. The first time she saw a broom sweeping up her mess, she made a horrible growling noise. Give Maxi time to get used to you and his surroundings.
You mention feeding him fruit but don't say what else you are giving him. Do you have access to good quality pellets? I feed Chyloe pellets, Nutriberries, Avi-cakes, assorted beans, peas, chickpeas, brown rice, corn, nuts, carrots, broccoli, and various greens. She has a small amount of fruit. When she wants to sample what we are eating, she says, "It's good eh?" She enjoys a lot of what we eat.

Warmed foods seem to be eaten here more than colder foods. Auggie and Fred, my rescue, love warmed squash, carrots, mashed sweet potatoes, warm oatmeal. Keep trying, it will fall into place!

Was the rice warm? Mine love rice, but first I did eat it in front of them. Maybe you can try eating in front of him for a few days without offering him anything, just to get him more used to you being around.
Then offer him some of the warm food you are eating.

and to add to Adele's suggestion of eating in front of Maxi, yum it up. It's the best thing you've ever eaten, try to spark her interest. It sounds silly, looks silly, but if it works.....

Hector naps on and off all day. He's on my schedule so he only gets about 7 or 8 hours of sleep at night. I asked the vet if this was a problem and she told me he'll make it up during the day when I'm at work. It's pretty regular for him. He takes a little snooze at about 9:30 and again at 12:30. Not a full on head tuck just dozes off for a bit. I think it's pretty normal.

Thanks Stef.. That's a relief.. I just got him ouf of the cage i guess he is more than happy relaxed on the top but im afraid he wont get back in and it is time for his sleep.. This is the first time, he doesn't growl because he is above me probably.. But do you have any suggestions how to get him inside again? I put him a new bowl of food.. Is it okay if he spent the night above in case he stayed up? His wings are not clipped yet..

Can you tempt him in with a treat?

Hector doesn't like to be touched so when I say "it's time to go in" he does because he has learned that the next thing is that I will bring my hands up to put him in. Once or twice I had to do that and I kind of herded him in because I had to leave for work. After that it was no problem. I do give him a treat once he's gone in. If it's an issue I would use a high value treat and you can kind of train him.

He is on a little perch in the living room and he didn't eat all day just now i put his cage under the perch and he jumped on it to eat and drink but he is still on top i dont know ill keep the door open once he is done.. I hope he does go in eventually.. Guys do you know what kind of treats they like so much?
