Thanks everyone for the warm welcome's!! Oakley is my very first bird. It's been a few day's since his arrival and everthing seems to be working okay. I don't know much about birds but he seems pretty happy!! A few things are bothering me and books just don't answer questions like I would like them to. Oakley seems to only sit on the rim of his food bowl. I have several perches in the cage for him, is this okay on his feet?? And the whole feeding him thing is diffrent, he seems to not like anything veggie that I give him It's worrying me, he eats other things and his pellet stuff, but boy is he picky. I'm so worried with this bird I'm driving myself crazy *g*

Yes they love to sit on the rims of food bowls, and even on the empty hoops which hold a food bowl in place, and the tops of cage doors. It won't hurt his feet, it just looks uncomfortable from a human point of view! If you put toys by his perches that might encourage him to go on them as well.
Greys are notorious for being picky eaters and it is usually vegetables that cause the most problems. Keep offering him a variety of vegetables and fruit, you may need to try cutting them into different shapes and sizes. Also, try the vegetables raw and cooked, warm and cold because they can be very fussy about this. Mashing is also worth a try, especially sweet potato and carrot. Sometimes a piece of corn on the cob is popular because it is seen more as a toy to start with.

Thanks Jane for your reply I do have toys in his cage and he doesn't seem to play with them? Is that to weird, maybe I should get new ones or something. He seems to be obsessed with just trying to see us?? Oh how I have so much to learn! I did try the broccli raw yesturday and cooked today, he's picky *g* At least he keeps eating carrots and he seems to love fruits (grapes are favorite right now) I'll have to pick up some corn on the cob, I bet he'll love that! How much would a bird eat of lets say carrots? Probably not alot huh but like my son, I always think they should eat more!!

Yes there is probably too much that is new for him at the moment and he hasn't got round to his toys yet. Carrots are good for them as they contain betacarotene which is converted into vitamin A in the body. Red orange and yellow peppers are also good, and chillies. It is actually better to cook carrots than have them raw because the cooking helps the betacarotene to be released from the cells. It is better to offer a variety of fruit and vegetables rather than a lot of one thing. Grapes for example are usually loved but they are bulky and fill a bird up without providing much nutrition. You will probably notice that his droppings are particularly watery after eating grapes as well!

Thanks Jane, your information is really helping. Tonight I gave him corn on the cob and cucumbers. He didn't want neither while we were eating. So then I put him on the top of his cage on his perch and put the corn in there and he munched and munched. I guess he's a little bashful eating around his new family *g* So at least that seems to be the key with him, putting it in his bowl, away from us!! Good info on the carrots too, thankyou I've been giving them to him raw..........

Maybe a little late but have had my bird for just over a month now and he has changed so much but only slowly so it is a matter of being patient this is the hard part though....When I put new food or toys it takes him at least three to five days for him to go to them,so I kept putting fresh vegetables in for him twice a day some raw and some cooked and have been trying all sorts from day one...and last night all of a sudden he started eating a couple of sprouts after first playing with the rest and am so chuffed as they do need to eat veggies for the vitamins and he also ate some broccoli raw as well after a play. This was all done from earlier advice from the likes of Tammy,Jane and Preston....so keep asking and they will put us novices o.k....sounds like you are like me loving the new one..
