I don't know, it's a very cheeky habit. Joshua does it on my shoulder or trouser leg as soon as he sits down on me. Lidia

They like to have nice clean beaks and will wipe them on anything available. Mitzi is more fussy about her beak than Monty though, she hates messy feet as well and will try and chew up and swallow anything soft and messy without using her feet, if at all possible.

Also why do they go to the br. as soon as they get out of the cage? Francine will poop as so as she get on the carpet.

The little darlings don't like to soil their environment, so if possible they often hold it in until they're on your territory! Lidia

Haha, I just laughed when I read these posts, because Pearl does exactly the same thing! As far as her pooping when she comes out of her cage, early in the morning, she is just waiting for me to take her out and pick her up. The it's a mad dash to her perch in the bathroom so that she can drop the bomb on the tray underneath. Sometimes, if obstacles get in my way and I do not move quick enough, she does the notorious butt wiggle and then goes right on the carpet. After that, she chuckles. If that's not sassy, I don't know what it. LOL. Also, she loves to rub her beak on me, especially if she has a little bit of food on it. I guess I don't mind, just because it's so cute

Mitzi is toilet trained and rarely does it where she shouldn't but if she is on my lap and I dare to rewind the video with the remote she will "reward" me for it. She is immensely jealous of both the phone and the remote controls but she knows the difference because if I pick up the cordless phone or my mobile she says "hello" which she doesn't do with the remote.

I get Joshua out in the morning, and put him on his tree and IMMEDIATELY hold a piece of toilet paper under him to catch his poo. Recently, though, I was bending down thinking he didn't need to go, and he went all over the back of my head and neck (a wake-up morning accumulation poo, that is). Nice, huh? Lidia

Gotta love the first ones in the morning. Jack got me with one right after we got him. My other 2 birds don't "save it" as he does.

These were funny to read!!! Zazzy holds it in the morning to go in the garbage can, but he too will poo as soon as his little feet go off of the hardwood and onto the carpet!!! Or just as I'm bending down with paper towel to wipe up the floor under his hanging perch I have to be careful not to get one on my head... its as if he's saying..."oh, here you go..here's another for ya!!!!" We have all been poop'd on by Zazzy and we're so use to it, it's nothing...but for any outsiders like my daughters friends its....."EEEWWWWWW!!!!!"

All these posts are funny cos they're so true!!Silver seems to 'mark her territory' as well - if she goes to any new area she does a tiny poop on the floor. Potty training is the next step but we are concentrating on the behavior stuff at the mo!
By the way - does anyone know a good way to clean up poop on the carpet? My carpet is cream and it's a nightmare!

I guess we all have birds that have exactly the same habits. I noticed Trinie doing the same things mentioned by everyone....when I take him out of his cage, he rubs his beak on my hand and clothes then as soon as he gets comfortable he goes. I have taught him to poop on command but he still does it whereever and whenever the urge is there. How can I train him to hold and only go where I want him to?

I think this is because although you have trained him to poop on command, he isn't trained to understand that there are places he poops and places he doesn't. Mitzi is trained in both ways - she does poop on command but she also knows that the only places are either her cage or her stand and if she is out on my lap she lets me know when she needs to be put on her stand or, if the stand isn't in sight, she just waits. You need to reinforce that part of the training by watching the body language and getting him to the right place. In time he will "ask" in some way.

Hi Jane,
Do you mean, I just have to keep an eye on him and whenever I see the sign that he wants to go, I get him to the place I want and command him to and if I continue this practice he will eventually hold it until I get him to the gesignated place.? Does it matter if I missed the sign now and then or is it a must to get him to the place everytime? Thanks.

Hi guys,
Where do I begin with the toilet training? Mostly Charlie sits on top of the doors and we have wooden flooring so it isn't a great issue as i just run around after him cleaning up.
Should I buy a training book?
