Thank you so much everyone. Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.
It is early evening here. Michael has been in the operating theatre all afternoon. The operation went well; they were able to get the cancer out and join the ends of the bowel back together but they had to revert to conventional surgery as the bowel the other side of the stent was still dilated and the weight of the stent made it difficult to handle. We will go to see Michael later this evening.

What a term "theatre" - HA! Glad all went well. Sorry he had to be cut open. Sounds like a good start, getting the colon back together without any complications. Keep an eye on him and question everthing if need be. You need to be the best informed advocate for him right now. Good luck with the next steps.

Glad to hear all went well, even if they did have to revert to conventional surgery. *sends virtual hugs* You both are in all our hearts and minds.

Let Michael know we're all rooting for him and be sure to follow doctors orders and Jane don't let yourself get burnt out. Keep the faith.

Thank you. Michael is progressing well, he has been drinking water and clear fluids and they have had him sitting in a chair for short periods. He has been told he can start eating today. He has one large vertical wound and four small ones (from the laparoscopic attempt) They removed a lymph node because it looked swollen but we won't get to hear the results of that for over a week. If everything goes well he could be coming home on Sunday or Monday.

Great News Jane! You and Michael are always in my prayers. I will pray that the biopsy on the lymph node comes back cancer free....

I hope Michael gets clear margins and the negative node. Inflammatory changes are not out of the question -- imagine how ticked off his body is right now. And it shouldn't take a week to get results. They should have done a frozen section on the node if there was any worry. I myself tend to be very forceful with medical personnel. I think my husband's cardiologist is very afraid of me!!
