There is no question Cosmo knows he is doing something annoying, as he only rattles (incessantly) his seed dishes when my husband is alone in the room or when he is bored because we are watching TV quietly in the evening. His cage is positioned right behind our recliners between the kitchen area and the TV room, and we spend every evening and early morning there. If I go to bed before my husband Cosmo immediately starts rattling the dishes, and will not stop until they are taken out of his cage. When I leave the house he does it if my husband is in his recliner. Unfortunately, sometimes my husband then goes off and forgets to put the dishes back, and I come home to a thirsty and hungry bird. Once when he did it while I was there alone I let him go on thinking it would tire him out eventually, but he kept it up for 1/2 hour until I finally left the area. He knows what he's doing, and does it deliberately. Any ideas? I have had him for 30 years, and I know he is getting cross in his old age. Also I don't let him out as much as I used to, I guess I got tired of all the chewed molding that we didn't even replace in our old house. He seems more fearful of new things too.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It sounds like Cosmo is trying to get your attention. Mitzi has one of those holders which contains a till roll and she will bang it on the bars to let me know she wants it refilled. She also has musical toys that she can operate but sometimes they get twisted round and she can't get at the buttons. That makes her bang the toy on the bars. She also empties her food bowl out with her foot if she has eaten what she wants and wants more of the same. She is 30 now and Monty is 32.
Has he got a stand that he can go on, mine have stands. Does he like being stroked, will he come on your lap for a cuddle? Has anything upset him recently?

Welcome to the forum.
Whenever I come home, Chyloe starts throwing water. I used to take it away from her but I know she does it because she wants to come out of the cage. Once I open the cage door, she stops throwing water.
It sounds like Cosmo is rattling the bowls to get attention.

That certainly is like a child that acts out to get attention; ANY attention will do; I suppose my husband going to the cage and taking out the dishes is SOMETHING! Today when he started doing it I asked him to step up and then I started cleaning one of his perches while he watched. When I got done he went right back inside. I will continue to work on it. Thanks for your input!
