My husband posted a picture of Aka playing with his blocks but said 'praying' instead of 'playing' in the caption so I wrote this:
"Oh Lord Feather, please allow my humans to have a good life so they can buy me toys. All hail Lord Feather. In the name of my father, the egg, and the holey toys. Amen."

I have just bought a toy for Mitzi that she particularly likes, it was delivered today along with various other parrot supplies. It is a wooden tube filled with all sorts of other chewable goodies. She has had several before but they don't last her long. I opened the parcel and put the toy in her cage and she started playing with it straightaway. Another £10 worth of toy soon to be destroyed!

Hi Jane, That is so cool The parrot shop we bought Aka's harness from (he is still terrified of it so this will take some time) sells DIY parrot toy products like those paper rectangular straws, bird-safe bells, reinforced paper rolls so they won't be destroyed in a second, and other chewable things. I want to make one of those destructible toys or a few of them. I tried when he was a bit younger but he wasn't interested so maybe it will be different now.

I used to take my first grey out in a harness. When I tried to put it on Chyloe, she tried to bite the stuffing out of me. I finally gave up and put her in her travel cage when I take her anywhere.
I used to make toys for her but I guess I got lazy and just buy them these days. They don’t last long.

Hi Haz,
That's cool. I still don't know how/if he'll handle it. The vet said that I should try different types of harnesses if he doesn't like the one we got him.
I use the travel cage when we leave which he doesn't mind (it's also his bed) but one of the rules for international travel for parrots entering the EU is that they have to be harness-trained to mitigate the flight risk. We still have some time so I'm not tooo worried, but we need to get that sorted before we fly so he isn't more stressed than usual on the day.
Aka generally waits about a week to play with toys I get from the shop because he is scared of them. If he sees me making them, he plays with them straight away so it helps with boredom. Also, about 75% of the "parrot toys" sold here aren't parrot safe. Large companies make them by the thousands to make money without worrying about the dangers to the birds. Most toys have copper bells, edible calcium that is actually coloured stones that look like calcium, unsafe wood (and glue to bind the wood pieces together), and unsafe dyes used for the blocks. The companies truly don't care about anything other than profit so we have to buy our toys from smaller shops who hand make toys with a list of safe components that you can verify, or order them from the EU where the toys are tested and ensured to be bird-safe which obviously costs way more than the local toys. It's much safer and cheaper to make your own.
