Sheep can recognise the faces of flock members but they can also recognise human faces. In an experiment a human who looked very much like the farmer was dressed in the same clothes and the two sat a few feet apart holding a box of sheep treats. The sheep were then allowed in and without fail they ignored the imposter and went to the farmer to get their treats. In case they were simply going to the person who was nearest they changed places several times but the sheep still went to the farmer.
Using photos of sheep from other flocks and photos of members of their own flock the sheep were then allowed into the field to craze. They looked at the photos of the unknown sheep but they went right up to the photos of their own flock and chose to craze on the grass immediately in front of them. Again the photos were moved several times but the sheep always went to those of their own flock. It was pretty incredible, I was having trouble telling the sheep apart myself, they all looked much the same to me!

That’s interesting. I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as sheep treats.
