Hi all,
So Aka likes climbing to the top of his cage so he can sit on the square perch that runs along the top. A few months ago, he wasn't able to climb down by himself because his foot would get in the way and he would fall. When this happened (before he fell), he would squeak and I would have to come get him down with his ladder. He was happy with this until he wanted to get down himself, probably as a confidence thing. He can climb up and down by himself now and he's very chuffed with himself, except when he wants to be lazy.
He knows where his toilet is so he normally climbs down and goes to the toilet, and climbs back up again without any issues. This doesn't work 100% of the time because he knows I'll come when he squeaks for the toilet -different squeak compared to the 'please get me down so I can play' squeak. Yesterday, I was busy in the kitchen and I heard the toilet squeak so I got his ladder and took him to the toilet. He is toilet trained for the most part but he likes testing me and he will go in his cage to teach me a lesson if I don't come soon enough. It doesn't happen often, but he knows I don't want him to go in his cage so he uses me as a lift.
So yesterday, after I took him to the toilet, I watched him from the kitchen. He went up to the top and started squeaking for me to come get him down again. I said "No, I'm not helping you down. Don't be lazy." I went back to the kitchen and I heard him climb down, climb back up again, and squeak for me to use the ladder. I had the same response when I came into the lounge, and after it didn't work the second time, he started playing with his block, looking a bit sheepish.
At least he is getting his exercise haha.
