Things must be pretty dire. I don't live near the coast but I looked out of the window at around 8.40pm this evening and saw two big seagulls. I have occasionally heard them flying overhead here but never on the ground. One of them had something that looked like a dead bird about the size of a blackbird. Only one of the seagulls was eating it, the other was patrolling around as if on guard. Meanwhile a Magpie was in the vicinity edging closer and maybe hoping for leftovers but there was no chance of that as the seagull swallowed the rest of the bird it was eating whole. I have only ever seen birds of prey eating other birds.

No I hadn't. I knew seagulls can be very aggressive and they snatch food off people in seaside areas but I didn't know they are capable of swallowing creatures whole. I think these two were Herring Gulls, they are the really big ones.

You have made me see seagulls in a whole new light.
I don't live near the coast but seagulls are all over the place here.
