Just yesterday, Maui has started to meow, like a cat. She was doing it quite a bit. I often put her outside for several hours per day to get some sunlight and for her health. I do sit outside with her, but I am often in and out, leaving her in her outdoor cage by herself at times.
Now I'm a bit concerned that she's making a cat noise. I haven't seen any cats in our backyard since we moved in and brought our dog. My brother hypothesized that maybe she is copying a kid, who in turn was copying a cat. I can't really tell a direct copy of a cat noise, vs copying a kid copying a cat noise! I'm hoping there's not some cat watching her in her outdoor cage, waiting for me to leave her alone. I'll leave the dog out with her more when I have to run inside and I'm sure our dog would not let a cat reach into her cage.
I have some videos of her sounds. We had children visitors. When their parents dropped them off, the parents were so interested in Maui and really wanted to hear her speak. But as soon as they left, Maui was really chatty, saying a lot of stuff to the children, and they got a huge kick out of her.

Maybe there is a cat around during the night. I remember years ago looking after a neighbour's and she used to meow during the night. Mitzi started meowing for a while. (This is the cat that I thought would frighten Monty and Mitzi but Mitzi growled at her and she fled upstairs, only coming back down to eat or to use her litter tray)

Does Maui hear any television audio? Maybe a cat food commercial?

Yeah, her cage is just near the TV, so it could definitely have been something from TV. I went on a business trip and haven't heard it since!! So we'll see. But when I'm on business trips, Maui doesn't get to go in her outdoor cage (my kids and husband are too scared to handle her themselves).

I have not mentioned this on the forum before. Jane is the only forum member I privately confide in. My husband died suddenly which literally broke my heart. I had a heart attack on New Year's Eve. My family was with me and had to take over caring for Chyloe while I was in hospital.
The family is afraid of Chyloe. My daughter told me that they couldn't let her out in case they couldn't get her back in the cage. My son-in-law was the quickest at getting the food bowls in and the doors closed. Luckily, I had left a list of what Chy eats so they knew what to give her.
Chy is happy that her mother is home but keeps saying, "My daddy's gone" which is upsetting. Just writing this post is upsetting.
I just finished cardiac rehab and am now in good health. I plan to stay with Chy for years to come.
