A study of farmed salmon in Norway, Chile, Scotland, Canada and Australia has shown that at least half of farmed salmon are deaf. The rapid growth rate of farmed salmon, due to a high protein diet, leads to an overly rapid growth of the sensory organ in the inner ear. This organ is made of calcium carbonate and is used for hearing and balance but rapid growth causes a deformity in the normal crystal structure leading to deafness. It can be reversed by slowing the growth rate of farmed salmon.

I am sure that they won't slow the growth rate of farmed salmon. Faster growth means faster profit.

Norway is the biggest producer of farmed salmon and the Norwegian government is going to put a tax on it and spend the money on schools and hospitals. Prices could go up by 10%.
I like salmon and it is interesting how different farmed and wild is - wild salmon are leaner because they get more exercise but can be dry as a result.

Wild salmon is supposed to be better for your health. I never buy farmed salmon.
