Hi everyone,
What do I do if/when Aka seems extremely hungry? He is (still) moulting and his appetite has increased a lot, but not every day. About once week, he manages to finish his pellets (I give him 30g), and overall, he eats about 70g of food a day from the food I give him in his cage (chop and breakfast) and then with supper, this total weight of food eaten per day is around 90g.
He has kept a semi-constant weight of 467-479g over the past few months, some days higher or lower than that, so I think that's OK weight-wise, but I don't want to overfeed him. When he finishes his pellets (this happens once/twice a week) he sits and waits in front of his bowl for us to give him some more. I don't give him the same amount of pellets from the morning, it's 15g (half) of the weight of the morning pellets, and he eats those more slowly and then eats the other food in his cage. Should I stop doing this? I know it's rare for parrots to overeat, but I know there might be exceptions. He is a big bird, from tail to beak he is 32cm.
Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. Just continue the way you are. He isn't overweight. I looked at all the bags of food, Nutriberries and pellets I have got and some say feed as much as they want, some say an amount (e.g. 15 Nutriberries at a time) I have never weighed their food. I think they eat what they want and they can be very wasteful of food so Aka might not necessarily be getting the total amount that is in his bowl.

I don't weigh Chy's food either. She eats what she wants and tosses the rest. She weighs about the same as Aka.
