Hi, I am new to this group and I need some advice. I inherited my African Grey when my father in law passed away 2 years ago. Well anyway, she laid a clutch of eggs ( infertile) over a month ago. I took all but one out of the cage to try to get her to lose interest in it but she will not leave the egg except to eat and poop then right back to lay on the egg. It has been well over 30 days and she is not losing interest at all. What do I do? Do I take the last egg out? I don’t want to traumatize her. Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum.
My female is 29 now but in 2019 she laid two infertile eggs, one of which was very large. She was quite unwell with a swollen abdomen and inflammation and she had to have antibiotics. The vet said to leave the eggs in for 21 days and then remove them but I also had to keep her in the dark for 18 hours a day to stop her from laying more.

Ok so I should take the egg out? What would be the best way to take it ? I don’t want her to relate the missing egg to mama taking it. Lol I know that sounds silly but I worked hard to get her to take to me after her papa passed away and I don’t want to ruin that. Thank you

It is a different situation for you because Mitzi wasn't showing any interest in the eggs she laid. You could try rearranging things in the cage to try and distract her rather than taking the egg away.

My female used to lay clutches of eggs. I would leave them for a couple weeks, but like yours, she didn't want to do anything except sit on her eggs. I finally just took them away from her each year after leaving them with her for a couple weeks. Now, she's outgrown laying eggs as she's quite elderly.
