Hi everyone,
I am a bit confused about something that Aka does. The internet and behaviour sites says that when an AG raise wings (but without lowering head which is considered bowing), it is generally a good thing. The majority of the sites say that when not bowing, the reason for that 'stance' is pleasure or happiness.
Aka does this when I ask him a question and the answer is yes (like when I ask if he wants to go shower or sit in the sun). I know it's a yes because when I try get him into the sleep/travel cage for the shower and he doesn't want to, he screeches and puts his neck forward as if he is going to gouge out my eyes any moment, same with the sun. When I start moving his cage into the sun and he doesn't want to, he screeches and runs to the opposite side of the cage, away from the sun (I obviously leave him in his spot when this happens). When the answer is a 'yes' he doesn't do either of these things and does the wing thing and goes with the flow, no problem.
But, when I talk photos or try and take a video (which he hates), he also raises his wings, and then turns away from the camera/phone completely so I take that as a "I don't like this".
So now, I have two instances of this happening, and they have the opposite reason. Which one do I pick? The 'raising wings and lowering head' means "Yes" or "Get away from me" like with the camera? Do you have a definitive reason for your greys doing this?
I don't think this is bowing. When he see's me or my husband for the first time for the day, he raises his wings and lowers his head. He also does this when he sees my grandfather (the only member of my family who he speaks to/in front of). I consider that bowing, or is the wing thing without lowering his head also bowing?
I'm not concerned or anything, he isn't in distress when he does this, but I'd like to know if it's a 'yes' or 'no' which will make life much easier for us instead of getting confused through miscommunication.
Thanks.
