Hi guys! Bit of a difficult one here but I need your advice and opinions. So my african grey was diagnosed with beak and feather disease at around 8 months old. I was told she wouldn't live longer than a year as greys are very sensitive to the disease and they were surprised she was still Alive at 8 months. Obviously I was devastated and began to do everything possible to prolong her life. 2 years later she's still alive and thriving. Experts don't understand this and call her a miracle. She is the tiniest bit underweight that has been her only symptom, apart from that shez a cheeky chatty happy grey who I love dearly. So recently she has lost alot of white feathers and a few big wing feathers and today 2 red tails feathers. Shes been nasty and snappy for around 4 weeks with me which is strange as she adores me usually. She's 2 and a half years old. My question is.. do you guys think she is molting or do u think this is the disease beginning to show? Apart from bring moody and she also twitches alot and preens at night in her cage recently shes happy eating and drinking normally chatty and silly. Would really appreciate your guys advice as all the vets just don't understand how she's still alive! Thanks B Her name is tru- Ella trouble ( and she big trouble lol

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It is difficult to say because the molt can make them uncomfortable and moody. They can have a big molt when they lose tail and wing feathers. Down feathers are usually lost more frequently.
There would normally be more symptoms for beak and feather disease. Has she had just the one test for it? It might be an idea to have another test as it doesn't sound as if she has the acute version of PBFD which affects young birds.

Hi.. Thank u so much for taking the time to reply! Yes it's strange I know but all the birds have tested positive for it one of my ringnecks suffered massively and died at 2 bless her. But My other green ringneck is nearly 5 and lived with the other one that died from a baby and is healthy and happy not ever had a symptom which is so strange the vets say. My african grey was tested at 8 months but I am saving to have her tested again like you say. She doesn't have any other symptoms apart from being the slightest bit underweight even though she has an amazing diet and eats all the time. I hope and pray she is just molting.. I heard greys do molt around 2-3 so pray for her please as she's My whole life and happiness Thank u 💓

Welcome to the forum,
You say that she has been snappy with you. Greys are famous for going through the terrible twos where they act up like little children. I was fortunate that my Chyloe never had a change in attitude but other greys have suffered through the twos.
It would be best to have her re-tested.
