Ambulance workers are on strike today which means that the majority of people won't get an ambulance if they dial 999. Some areas of the country will respond to life threatening conditions only such as cardiac arrest, called Category 1. Things such as heart attacks and strokes are Category 2, some areas will respond to these but some won't. NHS bosses have advised the public to avoid risky activities such as unnecessary travel, contact sports and " running on icy roads". I am not sure who would run on icy roads at the best of times but I suppose accidents from doing that must have been seen in A&E, hence their inclusion. Another person said to only dial 999 if you think you are going to die. Jane

I managed to fall down on an icy path and I was not running.
