I have previously posted about the overuse of the words unprecedented and space. I am now fed up with hearing or reading the word app as in "download the app" or "its all on the app". Is there nothing in this world that isn't on an app. Jane

Recently I was talking with a company that had their product available through an app. I was saying that some neighbors didn't have a smart phone, so they wouldn't be able to use it. They acted blown away, like how could people exist in this world without a smart phone!!
I am definitely a late adopter. In 2010, I had a little flip phone and no texting. My husband, who I met at that time, is a tech guy and always has the latest tech. So now, I do have a smart phone, and our house is all tech savvy (think: voice activated lights, screen on fridge, automated door locks, plenty of outdoor cameras, etc.). But when anything stops working or doesn't work as expected, I get all ticked off with him and blame him and all his "tech"!
Now though, our oldest child is 7 years old and she's already better with some of the stuff than me!! I try to stay up to date, but my old things work just fine, so why change them?

On the other hand Jane, there's this new, unprecedented app that's really, really cool! (How's that for irritating words!)

Technology has advanced so much and influenced all our lives, generally but not always for the better, but I do worry about the over reliance on electricity and the internet for so much these days, taking things out of our control if something goes wrong. We have seen storms cause lengthy power cuts and the mobile phone signals get affected as well. Then there is damage to undersea cables. The Shetland islands were cut off from the mainland last week after fishing boats damaged two cables, affecting mobile and broadband connections. The energy crisis means we might have rolling power cuts this winter. Ha Ha! You missed out the word space - there are no rooms anymore, it is all "living space", "sleeping space" etc. Jane

I actually love technology. My electronics expert husband installed all kinds of gadgets. The other day, my son-in-law laughed at me for turning on a light using my mobile phone. The light bulb had variable power which I could choose on the phone. I turned the light on before entering the room.
I Googled something for him and asked, "Google, where have you been all my life?" He made a reference to the Encyclopedia Britannica. We had to haul out huge volumes to get information in the past.
