Honey bees are under threat from parasitic varroa mites which attach themselves to their bodies, feed on their fat tissue and can kill the colony as the bees become susceptible to various viruses. One way of removing them is to sprinkle the bees with icing sugar. The bees then groom each other, the mites fall off and can't get sufficient grip to reattach themselves.
Bees are a vital link in the food chain as they pollinate 70 % of the world's food crops.

I don’t see many bees these days. There was just one big one that kept snuggling in my neck in the garden the other day. If that bee had mites, they ended up in my clothes.
