I saw a clip of a nature programme last night and it was an example of how weird and cruel nature can be as species compete with each other for survival. Two cichlid fish had got together and the female laid her eggs. Then a cuckoo catfish arrived and ate most of the eggs, laying her own eggs instead. The cichlid fish scooped up all the eggs and held them in her mouth and once hatched the babies as well. However the catfish eggs had also hatched and the cichlid held those babies in her mouth. So it was not a case of a cuckoo in the nest but a cuckoo in the mouth. The cuckoo catfish babies grew faster and bigger than the cichlid babies and the catfish babies started eating the cichlid babies.

I have never heard of Cuckoo catfish. Nature in general is cruel. There are always some species eating others.
