Every night I change the paper on the bottom of Chy's cage and wipe down the perches and bars. From time to time, I do a big cleanup.
Recently, I threw out all her toys, took out her perches and scrubbed them. Threw out her soft perch which was hanging by a thread and wheeled the cage out onto the deck where I used a hose and scrub brush on it.
After the perches had dried in the sun, I wrapped the wooden ones in vet wrap and put them back in the cage along with a new soft perch and new toys.
We all know how Chy reacted. When I tried to put her in the cage, she jumped off my hand and did the raptor screech. When I did get her in, she huddled on the bottom ripping up paper.
I covered her up early so she couldn't see the parrot eating perches. In the morning, she was sitting on her top perch.
Today, she started chewing up her new soft perch so I put vet wrap on that too.
It didn't take as long as usual for her to get back to normal.
I should mention that I put her in her travel cage while I worked on her usual cage.

Greys like throwing tantrums, especially when it involves their possessions and/or change.
If Mitzi doesn't get something she wants she throws food out of the bowls. If I take the dry food bowls out she then starts flinging the fresh food. Monty never has tantrums but then he isn't a typical Grey.

"The raptor screech" Hahahaha I love that. Aka makes that sound when he see's the feather duster. It's a small one (about a 50 cm/1.5 feet), and I haven't done anything to make him scared of it, he is just petrified. It works as a great barrier between the kitchen and the rest of the house since the kitchen doesn't have a door. If I forget to hide it behind my back when I need to use it, he screeches like that and puffs up like a feathered ball.
Aka refuses to go into his cage if he see's anything new. When I buy new toys, I have to put them on the couch in front of his cage for about a week so he can see it everyday before I put it in. In that week, he walks on them and pecks at them to make sure they aren't going to eat him, and after about a week, he doesn't notice them anymore. That's when I know it's safe to put them in his cage. When we bought his sleep cage, he had to inspect the bars and the bottom before any of us (including my husband and I) were allowed to go near it. He growled whenever we wanted to move it, so we just left him to decide if it was safe for the flock haha.

That's hilarious!!! Manzi was such a pain about new toys/perches, and would sometimes act soooo scared of a perch that I only took out to clean. Maui is scared of things, but only very briefly and then she doesn't pay them any attention. She was always the braver one.
