Why is it that everywhere you go now you are told you can do something/get something online. Why are people so determined to talk themselves out of a job. These are service industries - shops, banks, hospitality etc. It was understandable during Covid but things are more or less back to normal now. I am there, the staff are there - why can't they do it. I had a letter from my energy company asking me to increase my direct debit because of the increasing cost of energy. There was a time when utility companies would change a direct debit up or down accordingly but now it seems you have to do it yourself, online of course, it is no good phoning them. Jane

I was frustrated a few days ago when I tried to set up an appointment. I called in and their phone message said that you have to schedule appointments online only. So I looked online and tried to set up an appointment, but they said you have to have an account with them to schedule online. I tried making an account with them, but online said you can only make an account if you're a returning customer!!
I finally drove out to the place and the receptionist apologized and said it is a problem with the system, but she doesn't know how to fix it.

It can be such a Catch 22 situation. It was similar for me when I got the letter, it said you could do it online but I didn't have an online account and couldn't set one up because the company didn't have my email address. I had to phone and give it to them, then they had to email me with a link to verify my email address and another link to set up the account! Sometimes technology makes things more complicated instead of easier.

I have recently had to do a lot of business that entailed speaking with someone but in all cases, the message on the phone is that wait times are longer than usual and do your business online. Not all things can be handled online. It is extremely frustrating.
