We have a 6 week trip planned. We have someone watching our house for us. We have an outdoor cage and I want the house sitter to be able to take Maui outside for a few hours each day. She's been coming over everyday to give Maui treats. Maui generally likes women, but I've seen her take a huge chunk out of her old owner's hand (male), and I am worried she'll do that to someone else. So I tell women that even though Maui's never bitten a woman, to my knowledge, I can't guarantee that she won't bite.
But, I see Maui's body language and she's quite happy to take treats from the house sitter. So today we were brave and the house sitter attempted to get Maui to step up onto her hand, and Maui did it, all on her own too, so that's great.
Maui still fluffs a ton for my son, who is by far the most animal loving kid out of the three of them. But she has been taking almonds from him. Previously, she would just chuck them on the ground when he offered, then she'd go to the bottom of her cage to find it after he left (she makes her point known!). I'm hoping that she might trust him enough to step up one day. He would be over the moon.

That is good Maui will step up for the house sitter, they seem to be bonding well. They can be so fussy about who can do what even if it means "cutting off their nose to spite their face" by throwing treats down. Mitzi has done that too.
