When we first got Maui, she was 25 yrs old and had quite the vocabulary. Especially compared to my Manzi. But since Manzi did a lot more whistling and such, Maui joined him. It has been 1 year and 8.5 months since we lost Manzi. At first, Maui didn't make much noise at all. Then we moved this past year.
Now that we're all settled in, and she's in a new cage and location, and we have another member of our household, Maui's talking has really taken off. She says so many new phrases all the time. Just a couple days ago she said, "Oh, I'll be right there" in my husband's voice. She's been copying my husband and a friend all the time. She now almost always laughs when we laugh. Most of her talking is if we're talking just out of view of her. Then she'll talk non-stop. Also, a lot of the time I can't quite make out what she's trying to say. Then once I recognize it, I'll have my husband repeat it to make sure it is right. She copies his exact intonation, accent and everything. He's Australian, so Maui is often speaking with an Australian accent. He does mumble a lot, so Maui copies his mumbling!!
Anyway, with no one to whistle to her anymore, Maui definitely does a lot more talking. She is very shy with others, so even though I tell other people she can talk, she'll never do so in front of them.

That is nice Maui is talking more.
I often wonder if Mitzi would talk more if Monty did, as he just whistles and squawks. She laughs too and it is funny when that happens because her laughing makes me laugh more and then she laughs more. It happened once when I was putting the cage cover on and it kept slipping off. Now she sometimes laughs when I start putting it on, predicting what might happen.
