Okay so I'm a new bird owner.. I rescued Spartan the Congo African Grey (17 y/o) from a bad home a little less than a year ago and I know about pin feathers and molting. We found out she had a broken wing at some point that healed wrong so she'll never be able to fly so we hold her and run so she flaps and gets wing exercise. Tonight we were doing this with her and as she was flapping a feather fell out (nothing unusual...) but when I picked it up I saw the keratin shell of a pin feather at the end (about half an inch) and a little blood on the tip, it wasn't plucked or caught on anything although she did lay five infertile eggs about a month and a half ago and is still a bit malnutritioned since she's a very picky eater. (we just got them out last week) to any experienced bird owner/vet: what happened? can it grow back? how can I help her and basically anything in between.. I'm now really worried about her.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Another feather will grow to replace it. If it came from the wing that was broken and didn't heal it could be the follicles were damaged. Monty has always had problems with his wings and the primary feathers always fall out before they are fully formed.
Make sure she has plenty of calcium, broccoli is good and also a little hard cheese. They will usually eat something if you are eating it at the same time.

Welcome to the forum.
My Chyloe can’t grow primary feathers on one wing. They start to come in then she flaps and they fall out. She is a happy bird even though she can’t fly.
Greys are susceptible to calcium deficiency so make sure she has calcium rich food. In addition to broccoli, I give Chy yogurt and eggs.

This morning, Chy had a fright, thrashed around her cage and ended up losing 13 feathers. She also hurt behind her eye.
She is now sitting on my arm asking for neck scratches.
