Hi there,
Before we got Aka, I did some research about their sizes etc. I know every parrot is different because their size depends on genes, what they eat etc. The consensus was they reached their adult size regarding length at around eight months, reached weight-wise maturity at around two years, and sexual maturity at around four-five years.
Aka turns five months this month, and I measured him over the weekend just for fun. From beak tip to tip of his tail is 30cm. I thought they only reached 30cm at eight months since that's their normal age for size maturity. Is this normal? Will he grow anymore? The land-lord/breeder said he should stop growing now but I know his parents are big birds as well, the dad at least. I'm not concerned or anything, just curious if I should expect him to continue growing for the next three months or if he'll stay like this. I was told he will stop growing when his eyes turn yellow, is this true?
Thanks.

They do vary in both size and weight, 30cms sounds a good size. I just tried to measure Monty which wasn't easy as he kept trying to bite the tape measure but from what I could tell he was in that region.
We once did a survey on the forum about weight and the range (this is for CAGs) was mainly between 400g and 496g with one less than 400g and four over 500g. One of those four was Mitzi who usually weighs around 520g.
With eyes the iris starts to lighten around six months and gradually progress through dark grey, pale grey, whitish, and finally pale yellow. The age at which these stages occur can vary from one bird to another but generally speaking they start to lighten around 6 months, are pale grey around a year and pale yellow by around two.

According to Chy's vet who is avian certified, once a bird is fully feathered, they don't grow anymore. The weight can change but size doesn't.

Hi Jane,
Thanks for the response. Haha I had the same problem with Aka, I distracted him with a toy and was able to measure him.
I think Aka weighs around 490. This was his weight about two months ago. I should weigh him again since I haven't in the past month, but he is too fast for me and the scale. I have a scale with a bowl so I can put him in nicely but he uses the edge of the bowl to climb out as soon as I put him in. Maybe I should try with a towel next time.
Aka's eyes a pale grey now, when he's outside they look light blue which looks really cool.
Hi Haz,
That is a little odd because Aka still grew a bit after his flight feathers were coming in. They were mostly there, I think three or four of them needed to grow out properly, but still. This might have been of his stunted growth because of his foot but I don't know.
