I think that accepting food or treats from hands is the norm. The breeders and other people we know who have parrots are all shocked when I tell them Aka refuses, they have the issue of their parrots taking food out of their hands when they aren't looking lol. I don't mind it, I think it's better actually. It stops people from trying to give him food from their hands which is safer haha. One bite and they won't do it again. He doesn't even go for the food, he specifically aims for your fingers. If you haven't dropped the food/treat after the bite, he flings it across the room.
Aka doesn't really throw food that's in his bowls, except when he is in his travel cage and the pellets are close to the floor. He puts one foot in and shovels it out because he knows I open the cage to clean it, giving him a chance to escape.

Shovelling food out seems to be quite common. Mitzi will sometimes try to do it without me seeing by slowly putting the foot she thinks I can't see into the bowl. Other times she is more deliberate and does it as a protest when she wants another sort of food.

Chy is bad for shovelling food out of her bowl. She does it with her pellets.
Whenever I come home with groceries, she throws water.

Hi Jane,
That's really cute, and clever. Aka is still young, he might start shovelling when he realises that it's fun or that it annoys me haha. Aka's cage has a play stand attached to it at the top and there are two holders for the two out of five bowls that came with his cage. The holders don't have any fasteners on them, they are just two metal rings where the bowls slide into. I stopped putting bowls up there because he wouldn't shovel the food, he just used his beak and good foot to remove the bowls and throw them onto the floor. Pellets and water were all over the lounge floor and his cage in about a minute. If he is capable of laughing, I'm pretty sure he would have.
Hi Haz,
Aka pretends not to notice me when I come home with groceries. I pop my head into the lounge every once in a while to say hi, but he very knowingly turns his back on me and busies himself with preening or eating his pellets very loudly. I am saved if I have bananas and offer him a piece, but it's still 50/50 if he is going to bite me and throw the banana across the room.
