The University of Copenhagen has been doing some research into the "conversation" of pigs. For example, they found that happy and excited pigs made short grunts and had their ears pointing forwards. Making lots of noises and standing still indicated the pigs were scared or upset - such as when physically restrained for example. They hope the work can be used in an app so that farm workers and pet owners can improve the welfare of their pigs.
Pigs are very intelligent. I remember watching a programme on TV some years ago where pigs were shown using joysticks to control a cursor on a monitor and play games.
