Hi everyone,
Aka gets a balanced diet every day with vegetable chop, pellets, a soft parrot food for breakfast, a mixture of fresh and pet-store mix of dried fruit with nuts, sprouted seeds (only about 5g of seeds), and some legumes. That might sound like a lot of food but I only give him about 5-10g of everything that isn't pellets, which is about 20 grams. The end weight is about 60g but he only eats about 45-50g of this. The rest is found on the cage floor or the grass when he goes outside.
Recently, I have noticed that he leaves his fruit completely, and sometimes the sprouted seeds unless they are in his chop. Is this a problem? He eats everything else and his weight is good but does he need the fruit? I know too much fruit isn't good for him, but is no fruit just as bad? I've tried different combinations of fruit salad, fruit pieces on their own, and fruit as a treat. He refuses the fruit treat completely, and the other fruit just stays in his bowl.
Thanks.

I wouldn't worry, he is clearly getting a good diet and fruit tends to be high in water and sugar so generally speaking vegetables are better than fruit and he is getting those. It might be that he doesn't like the texture of the fruit, they can be very fussy about texture as well as taste.

Hi Jane,
Thanks for your reply.
That makes sense, about the texture. He is picky about the texture of carrots too.

You can try offering him fruit when you eat it, they tend to be more keen on food when it is in your hand or on your plate.

I didn't think about that. I will do that, thanks.

So I (well Aka) fixed this problem for the both of us. He has normal-sized water bowls which came with the cage and then I put one small water bowl by his food because he likes drinking and eating at the same time, and his cage water bowls are far from his food bowls. It's the water bowl that came with his sleep cage, it just has one rung on it to put over a single cage bar etc.
Well, I forgot to move the small water bowl to the other side of the cage when he started playing with his toys on that side of the cage -I normally move them from side to side so he can play without knocking it onto the ground/cage floor which happens often- so he knocked it into the bowl I put his fruit in (even though he doesn't eat a lot of it I still leave some fruit in his cage). The second he saw the water in the fruit bowl, he drank some water and started eating the fruit out of the water haha.
I'll check the water often to make sure the fruit doesn't go sour in the water when it's super hot.
