Hello everyone,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, if it has, please send me the link and I will look at that post instead.
Anyway, there are sooo many options and opinions of training for a CAG out there, it can be a bit difficult to choose the right method or first training session etc.
Aka is a bit older now (he will be four months next month, yay) and he is starting to pick up on a lot of things, like different words for specific things and what household items are, like the loud sucking thing (vacuum) and the tik-tik-tik thing that takes up my time (the PC keyboard) etc. so I want to start training him to recognize more things and just in general.
I have read that the 'step up' command is generally the first thing that is taught, but he does that already without me having to say a command. What is the first or second thing you taught your parrot? We are currently doing the toilet-training but that will take some time. He understands what he needs to do, but he also understands that I am very patient and will wait for an hour for him to do his business even if he can go after 15 minutes, even if he has to wait longer for the treat.
Anyway, any tips or advice for first training sessions regarding the best tricks for 'first tricks' and how to do them so he can remember them easily? For those of you who read my first post about his foot, he can use it for everything now except standing (including climbing where the strange foot actually helps him because his claws latch on to things and won't let go until he is 100% sure of where he wants to be). For this reason, I doubt I will be able to teach him anything that involves him using both feet equally as part of the trick. What I think is going to happen is he will use his good foot to stand and his bad foot for everything else but I could be wrong.
Thanks.
