Researchers lengthened the legs of desert ants using pig bristles and found that those ones were not as successful in finding their way back to the nest because of the change in the length of the stride. They have an internal pedometer that keeps track of the number of steps needed to get to and from food supplies.
Imagine that job - sticking pig bristles to ant legs.

It might have been because of difficulty walking on pig bristles.
