Hello everyone, I have a male AG since he was 3 months old (now almost 1.5 years). He was very bonded to me, he chose me as his mate. Very affectionate bird, loved to be pet, wanted to spend all day next to me. Suddenly, one morning when I -as usual- uncovered his cage he acts like he is really scared of me, he screams if I go close to the cage. Now my wife takes care of him, mainly put food, water etc cause I cannot be even close to him. I try to think what has changed, but really there is nothing new in the food, the schedule, the room, the people, our appearance. Any ideas? It is really heartbreaking to see this, I am working alot at home and we used to spend almost all day together.... thans

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I was going to ask if you were wearing anything that was startling him but that doesn't seem to be the case, although it sounds quite sudden and his reaction rather extreme as if something was frightening him. It can even be some small difference that you don't realise.
This behaviour is quite commom with Greys though and especially around this age as they feel the need to change the bond. They can go through a period of sometimes even aggressive behaviour around this time. I think all you can do is continue to talk to him and try to offer him treats.

Who knows what the heck goes on in their bird brains. Could be the color of your shirt (Beaker hates red shirts). Could be hormones.
My son had a great relationship with Beaker when I first got him.
Then one day Beaker attacked/bit him, he (Beaker) was about two.
My son was so pissed he ignored him for almost two years!
Beaker then got the hint that if he wanted a playmate, he had better cool the biting.
Now, my son can do almost anything with Beaker and he doesn't get bit.
Beaker will yell for him to come play "chase me".
AG's are real pieces of work.

Welcome to the forum.
It often happens around this age. He is about to enter the terrible twos.
If he has a favourite treat, try offering it to him so he will come to you to get it. Stick with it. It will be worth the effort.
