Ash had a wood block in her cage for probably three years and barely touched it. Then one day she just started destroying it. And in a couple weeks it was sawdust. The other day I bought a balsawood block and when I walked in the house she got so excited. But... balsawood was a mistake, it lasted all of about two hours before she totally destroyed it. $15 worth of balsawood for 2 hours. I have to get some harder wood.

I think it can be difficult to find the right balance with wood. If it is too soft it doesn't last but if it is too hard they don't bother with it. A few months ago I found a toy online that Mitzi loves which is most unusual for her as she is only really interested in paper and card. It is a hanging up foraging barrel toy and has wooden sections with holes in and more stuff such as pine cones inside it. She has had three of them already and they last her about a week but they are currently out of stock until November. This is it: www.northernparrots.com/foraging-barrel-parrot-toy-prod344636/It has got little coloured plastic chains on but I always cut those off before I give it to her. Jane

Chy used to have a favourite wooden toy. It had relatively thin wooden blocks with plastic chains in between. Every time she destroyed the blocks, I would replace them with blocks I bought in bulk. She eventually tired of the toy and the last one sat in her cage untouched.
She has suddenly started destroying that toy again even though it is sitting beside a new toy that she likes.
Who knows what goes on in their little heads.
