I have some friends that come over every couple weeks or so. Maui puts on such a show when they're over. My neighbors see Maui all the time and she never talks around them (but she does whistle when she's in the backyard aviary). But with these other friends, Maui goes through an extensive vocabulary. They've heard her say so many words, laughing, making all kinds of noises, etc.
Then so many other visitors, even regulars like my brother, have never heard Maui talk. Not sure what is it about this couple that makes Maui such a chatty bird. I was able to even let their 10 yr old daughter hold Maui, and no one's held her for years except me.
The friends are big time animal people so I'm sure that has something to do with it, but Maui can be quite particular. I remember about 10 years ago she really liked this woman who had no experience with parrots. The woman was able to hold Maui, scratch her head and everything. It amazed me. The woman said Maui biting her hadn't crossed her mind, so she was without fear, and Maui really responded well to the affection.

Mitzi is different with everyone she knows and she definitely puts on a show on some occasions. She doesn't talk as much as she used to, she has dropped a lot of her vocabulary and it is much more limited now.

Sheeba is the same, very quiet with most people, but there is one friend of my wife's that sets her off. She really gets noisy and wants lots of attention!

Chy can be chatty or quiet depending on the person.
She really likes our next door neighbour. She calls him darling and sweetheart etc.
A couple of years ago, we had a new stove delivered. One of the delivery men saw her and said, "Oh a bird". He went over and started whistling to her. She sat and watched him until he stopped whistling. Then she said, "Well, are you going to say hello?" That really shocked the guy. Chy then went into full-blown talking/singing mode.

Haz, I love that story!! People hear that parrots talk, but are still surprised at how it sounds just like a person in real life.
