hi i am new to this forum and wondering if anyone has came across a health condition Jess has. it all started with her falling off her perch then she couldnt grip. her bloods were all over the place tried upteen antibotics got them all settled and normal.she had surgery as found a mass and they checked all her other organs.they were fine the mass a cyst.they found fungus on her air sacs and tiny specks on her kidney they said asperguilous as had it before and kidney infection making her kidney large pressing down on her legs the nerves causing her to not grip.she has medacam now every day she is 25 and has to be at the bottom of her cage which is well cushioned shes lifted out every day at least 3 times lucky i dont work for cuddles to take the weight off her heels as she walks on them so constantly watching they are ok with savlon put on .she is happy and loved.the vets have treated her for months but no one can come up with a answer as her kidney wont go back to its usual size all results are normal.but her claws refuse to change.no grip.all the vets can say is the damage maybe to severe it wont right itself.the now she has her uv light on in the morning lifted out to clean her face check her cage clean it meds back in for food and grapes out in the afternoon to cuddle savlon watch a film with her mummy meds then back in for more food and then cuddles at night and decaf tea she loves has anyone had anything like this sorry long story

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear about Jess being ill. When I first started reading your post about her not being able to grip I thought it was a calcium deficiency but on reading further I can see it is more complicated than that and she now has multiple problems. Aspergillosis is difficult to treat.
When they did the initial blood tests after she was falling off the perch what were her calcium levels like?

Welcome to the forum.
I am sorry that you joined us under such sad conditions. I don't think anyone here has experienced what you are going through. All I can say is to follow the vet's directions and keep loving her.

So very sorry to hear of your grey's health troubles. I had a Timneh who went through some serious illness a few years ago, very sad situation, he didn't make it. I can just hope your vet can give you adequate care and advice. If you are a Facebook member, there is a group called #1 African Grey Parrot Lovers(official), they have over 30,000 members and several avian vets, you may want to post over there.
Take care and I surely hope your grey recovers. My grey, Sheeba, had a bad hip and had trouble walking. Turned out to be a cracked pelvis, but she has since recovered.
