Hello everyone I just purchased a 4 year old African grey Congo female from a pet store turns out she is sick. I’ve had her for 3 weeks. I took her to a Avian due to she has this wheezing sound according to the vet Radiographs show prominent greater vessels of the heart, normal slightly enlarged heart size. Normal pulmonary parenchyma. Recom sending the radiographs for consultation to differentiate heart diseases from pulmonary disease.
Differentials: Atherosclerosis Pneumonia
Turns out whom ever had her before me kept her on seeds. I’m having a hard time teaching her to eat veggies she doesn’t care to eat anything but seeds I’ve try all types of veggies fruits she refuses and won’t eat. Funny thing is she saw my wife eating potato chips and went crazy for one. I purchase her a XL cage and so many toys she doesn’t play with anything and doesn’t like to be on the perches either she rather be on the bottom of the cage walking around. She does come out of her cage and talks and whistles. But she won’t allow anyone to touch or handle her. Please anyone with tips on foods I can try I’m running out of ideas

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear your new Grey is sick but it is good she is talking and whistling.
They do usually want to try what you are eating, as with the chip, so she might do the same with veggies and fruit. Sometimes the way veggies look can affect what they eat - sticks of carrot rather than slices for example.
It will take her time to get used to the new cage and all the toys, and the same with touching so you will have to go at her pace. Greys can be cuddly but some Greys don't like to be touched and some will only allow certain areas to be touched but again it will be a matter of time.
They often enjoy chewing up paper, and cardboard tubes from kitchen roll.

Welcome to the forum,
As Jane said, they like to try whatever you are eating. My girl likes to eat chicken. Every morning she has a variety of nuts, vegetables and fruit. Of course, she has pellets and Nutriberries too. You could try her with yogurt.
It will take her some time to get used to toys and you.
Chy likes wooden toys she can destroy and cardboard tubes.
Did the vet give any meds to help her condition?

Hope your grey is getting better, I know illnesses can be difficult. My grey, Sheeba, doesn't like pellet food as a main diet, but mixed in with a variety of a safflower seed mix and chopped fruits and vegetable, she will eat some. I also give her a cooked food, Premium L'Avian Plus, it's cooked and cooled, it has pasta, rice, beans and other things, she loves it. I mix in chopped fruits and vegetables. As others have mentioned, greys will want to eat whatever it is you are eating. Once they figure out you eat good food, you can trick them into eating items they may not eat on their own. Sheeba really likes Lafebers Avi-cakes.
Keep us up to date on her progress and welcome to the group. Do a search for "pellets", there is a lot of good advice in this forum.
