I like these little creatures. There are a lot in my garden and I always try to avoid disturbing them or damaging their webs but recently they seem to have decided to take over. They have been making webs in between shrubs and everywhere I turn the way is blocked by a large web with a small spider in the middle!

This morning I saw my neighbour across the street sweeping the ivy on his garage. He must have been sweeping spider webs away.
Maybe it’s because we are not getting rain that spider webs are appearing everywhere.

The garden spiders seem determined to keep me under control. Today I opened the back door and there was a large web with a tiny spider in the middle, stretched across the doorway between the bins I keep on either side. I had no choice but to carefully move it so that I could get out.
I was then in the garden and doing some pruning and I turned round to see a male blackbird on the grass. He saw me and stood still looking at me. I then realised why - there was a young blackbird behind him. The two of them looked at me and then the youngster scurried under a shrub. The adult blackbird rushed around and got something which it fed the youngster. I didn't want to disturb the mealtime so I backed slowly away and went round the side of the house wondering how long it takes to feed a hungry young blackbird and realising I couldn't get back in the house until they had finished as I didn't have the keys for the front door with me. The hedge along the side of the house got some extra pruning today!
