Maui has been making an almost yelling/barking noise for the past 3 years and I never knew where it came from. Then last night, the neighbor's dog across the street got out. It was a little yappy dog and made that same noise. It is the exact sound that Maui's been making. I feel like I finally have another mystery solved!
Also, Maui must have great hearing. We live on a little residential street, but it is across the street and she had been hearing it!

Chy asks, “what does a dog say” then she barks like a person imitating a dog. She never barks like the dog next door.

It's wonderful to finally learn where a particular sound comes from. Sasha mimics the chirping sounds of many of the outside wild birds. At times it can sound as though it is the United Nations of bird flock representatives.
Occasionally, outside I'll make a match of a sound to a specific bird. The only one I origonally knew was the woodpecker sound. It's easy to recognize a beak powerfully digging into solid wood.
