It seems that cats have preferences about how they regard their owners and vice versa. A study has shown that there are five types of relationship. www.lincoln.ac.uk/news/2021/06/1699.aspOpen - the owner is distant and the cat aloof. Friendship - the owner loves their cat but the cat doesn't need to be around them all the time. Co-dependent - they adore each other. Remote association - cat and owner just do their own thing. Casual - the owner does not see the cat as part of the family but the cat is friendly with everyone it meets. The site has a quiz for cat owners. www.lincoln.ac.uk/home/cat-quiz/ I think the questions would equally apply to African Greys apart from 12 and 13. Jane

My cat and I were co-dependent. We adored each other.

Definitely co-dependent here... I would almost call it mutual worship rather than adoring each other

There doesn't seem to be a category for the two cats who come in my garden. Obviously I am not the owner but I do want to be friendly with them. Both cats remain aloof and either give me a brief haughty glance or ignore me.
