My african grey pair mated once, and then female started to go in and stay there for a long time and come back. now its been a month since the female came out last. when ever i open the nest box, female screams and the male comes rushing.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
They will be very defensive of the nest box, especially if she is sitting on eggs.

Well I checked the nest box and there are no eggs up to date. Do you think it’s an issue.

How old are they? Females can get broody once they have a suitable nesting place such as a nest box but it depends how old they are.

They are 8 years old.

They are old enough to breed. They won't necessarily be successful straightaway.

Should I remove the female from the next box and close it again for sometime?

It is difficult to say what is going on. They might have been mating since without you knowing. Presumably she is coming out to eat, as she isn't sitting on eggs, when the male would feed her.
