Yesterday, while at work I went out to my car for break, and a Copper's hawk had killed a pigeon and was eating his lunch right next to my car. When I walked up he flew up to my car, and then back down to continue his lunch. Half hour later the parking lot was full of pigeon feathers blowing around. The remains of the pigeon were pretty gruesome, but, still kinda cool to see nature in action in an urban environment.

I hadn't heard of Cooper's Hawks, I have looked them up. Beautiful birds.

On our street, a hawk took a dove for lunch. I don't know what type of hawk and he took the dove up to a rooftop to dine so we didn't get to see the gory details. Thank goodness.

I just love nature, and also have to remind myself this is all part of it. If our beautiful greys were still in the wild I can just imagine what they would resort to do to keep alive, there is always a purpose.

We've had a peregrine falcon in our area for over a year. Now that I'm more familiar with the sounds, I spot him/her all the time, like several times per week. I was in the hammock in the backyard a couple days ago and he flew into a tree in our backyard.
When I first built the aviary outside, I remember the birds freaking out, and I ran outside and the falcon must have dive bombed the aviary and had landed on top. It quickly realized it couldn't get my parrots, and gave up on them, and they stopped freaking out every time they saw the falcon.
I'm pretty far into the city here. When I lived in Northern California there were a lot of hawks all around. In MN, I saw bald eagles nearly on a daily basis during the spring/summer/fall. Those were pretty awesome to see. Now I'm quite happy with my peregrine falcon.
