Hi all, As Merlin is on the mend, I wondered what is safe for him to chew wood wise. He loves our sideboard drawers as they are full of goodies he isnt allowed. So i thought I would make a small box the size of one of the drawers and put stuff in it he likes. but what wood can i use to make this. He always trys to chew our drawers so i know he will chew this if I make it. It will be about 12 inches by 12 inches and maybe 4 inches high, with a bottom, but no top, so he can perch on it ans walk around it.
Is softwood ok from b&q, if i sand it down? What else can I used instead?
thanks

I am glad to hear from you again and that Merlin is on the mend.
Regarding ready prepared wood if it is just plain pine it should be okay but it mustn't have been treated with anything.

Hi, he is up to weight, and the breathing is now as normal as I remember. I have just been told by the vet to continue his nebulizing until they tell me otherwise - thanks for asking, at least people like me have this forum - be lost without it!
When you say not treated with anything, do you mean like stain, varnish, paint - that soft of thing? I was looking at plain pine with nothing on it. I would then sand it down to make sure.
Or do you mean, when the tree was growing and meaning pesticides and things like that - obviously I would have no idea about that.
thanks

That's good, it sounds like he is doing well.
Some wood is pressure treated with chemicals to preserve it and stop it rotting.

A soft wood like pine is great for them to shred.
If you want to see an AG version of "gone in 60 seconds" give them a piece of balsa.
I have been making Beakers roosts out of maple, he gave up trying to chew them apart.
