Hello everyone I am shocked to find this site as I have searched the net many times before and must have missed it!! My name is Sheila and I have an 11 mo. old female congo named Frannie I have been looking for some bird help and really hope I am at the right place. I got Frannie when she was 6 mo. old and unfortunately have to sell her. I love her but my hubby is NOT a bird fan. Also...my main job is candle making and I worry that might cause issues with her too. We also have been forced to burn wood because of fuel prices and the size of our house and age and I know that isn't good either. I have a large cages, tons of toys, a play stand and much more that she comes with. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I am enjoying reading all your posts about your birds. Thanks, Sheila

Welcome to the forum. I burn 1 cord of wood a winter and have for all of Pete's life. We keep the chimney clean with cleaning logs at the beginning of the season, (Pete is at the neighbors for that hour or so) burn nothing but hard woods so the smoke level is minumal. There are 5 other parrots in our home and never seem to mind. If your careful not to burn the wax I don't think there is a problem there either, unless you use heavy perfumes.

Preston,
Hi... Well we have to burn all kinds of wood because we do all the cutting and gathering ourselves to just get what we can.
As for the wax...that is my job. I have a website and make candles at home. All day everyday.
I really hope someone can point me in the right direction to find Frannie a good home. Money isn't a concern as much as a good home.

Look at home.chilitech.net/~pstone under My Flock to see the happy home with a flock to belong to, but the travel to Texas may be a bit much. Keep us posted

Preston, have you looked at any rescue groups in your area to see if you can find a grey? I read about this place in a bird mag, and they sound very good: austinavianrr.org/Here's another site that lists some rescue organizations in your area: www.netpets.org/birds/birdresc/birdgrp.htmlSheila, here's a bird rescue in your state. Their site says they will first try to help you find a solution to your problems so you can keep your bird, but if nothing will work, you can surrender your bird to them and they will find a good home for her: www.maars.org/services/surrender.php

Thanks!!
I will check them out.
I think I am going to have to just give her up. I know with all the candles I make it isn't good for her.

Sheila,
It's sad you have to sell/give up your Frannie, I was thinking the same thing as Preston, however I'm even further away, California. Too bad I wasn't going home on vacation anytime soon, I'm from Wisconsin. Good luck on what ever you decide. Like you say the candles can't be good for Frannie.
Take Care, Mary

I just talk to the guy I adopted Rosebud from yesterday. We e-mail each other at least once a month.... His e-mail touched my heart. He has a severe Autistic Child and that is the reason he had to give up Rose Bud. Here is part of what he wrote to me...
I am so glad that you are loving each other. You know I love her very much to care so much find her a good home and basically give a way three thousand dollars. You are a special person though and if anyone deserves a little uplift, you do. Enjoy! Keep in touch.
Since losing my 16 year old daughter this bird has been my life and made life worth living again.... My house is no longer the gloom and depression it use to be.... It is now filled again with laughter....
I gave her mashed potatoes last night (her favorite) so she is done being mad about the weekend... ;D

If anybody here is in the Arizona area, and is looking for a CAG, there is one currently available at the place I adopted Nikko from (Tucson Avian Rescue & Adoption). Strangely, someone found him and tuned him in, and no one ever claimed the poor guy. They say he's a real nice bird too.
