Manzi fades in and out at being bad with having his nails clipped. Sometimes he puts up with it for a few nails, and other times he goes berserk when he sees the nail clippers. When he's really bad, I wrap him in a blanket to clip his nails. Anyway, today he was particularly bad, so I gave him a whole bunch of sunflower seeds, two each time he let me mess with a toes without fighting. I feel like this is a better route, and maybe start giving him treats when ever he sees the nail clippers. Still, I get all dedicated towards a technique, then lose patience. Hopefully I can stick with this and within a few weeks, he'll be fine.
Anyone have luck with birds liking their nails getting clipped?
I do have two nail trimming perches (a sand and a concrete one), and both birds use them all the time, but they haven't done much at all. Both birds still need their nails clipped about once per month.

I never have to trim their nails because all but one of their perches are the nail trimming ones, the diameter is one and a half inches. They are the Polly Pastel ones like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Pollys-Pastel-Large-Bird-Perch/dp/B0002ARIY4 (I haven't bought any for a long time, I can't believe how much they have increased in price!) Monty's beak is another matter, his lower beak grows lopsided and long even though he plays with a lot of toys. It can make eating difficult so I have to dremel it. (Years ago we took him to an avian vet but he just used a dremel and Monty was frightened so I do it now) I think he understands that I am helping him because afterwards I say: "how's that" and he rubs his upper and lower beak together up and down and from side to side as if testing out whether it is satisfactory or not. Jane, does he fight you when trying to dremel? Or bite at the dremel? Manzi definitely bites at the nail clippers.
Maybe I'll try those Pastel perches. We have the 1.5" sand and concrete ones, and their nails fall at just the right spot, but it doesn't seem to trim their nails nearly enough.

He knows it is going to happen because I tell him he needs his beak done. When he sees the fleece that I wrap him in he tries to run away but once he is wrapped up and I start dremelling he is surprisingly good about it. I think he is so used to it now and realises that it is to his advantage.
Mitzi has never needed her beak done and I dread to think what she would be like if she did.

I also have two nail trimming perches but they don't work very well for Chy. I have to use the dremel about every 3 months. Actually it is hubby who does the dremelling. I hold Chy on her back on my knee while he goes to work. Chy clenches the foot he is working on so her toes look like a dead spider. I have to pry open the foot and hold three toes while he works on one until each foot is done. Chy doesn't make a fuss although she does mutter under her breath.

After 3 days of heavily giving treats while holding the nail clippers has not had the effect I anticipated. Today, as soon as Manzi saw the nail clippers, he began to regurgitate! Like now he's wanting to mate with the nail clippers cause the clippers are giving him treats.

Adele this was funny to me, because for years Sid has always had a thing for small metal appliances, the slow cooker, toaster etc. He will sit up close to them and start to spread the wings and get defensive if I touch it. Needless to say they are kept out of sight as much as possible or I may get a nip just reaching for my toast.
