Hey there, so a few minutes ago I tried trimming my greys beck. She was biting onto the nail clipper when I went a little bit more than needed and trimmed it. She instantly started opening her wings and flew a little bit back on her cage. For a few seconds I thought everything went well, but then I saw some blood. She only bled 1 tiny drop but I was scared and instantly regretted it. It was my first time trimming my birds beck. I told my parents about it, they gave her a look but she seemed fine. She stopped bleeding after a minute of trimming it but it was still scary. She doesn't need to go to the vet, but I should probably let my parents do the job of trimming her beck next time. I just wanted to share my story. I feel really bad. Sorry I'm still pretty young to handle my grey properly.

Welcome to the BOY DID YOU SCREW UP club.
I did something similar when I first got Beaker.
I "trimmed" a feather which turned out to be a "blood" feather and there was flapping and blood spraying and me PANICING!
A nice big emergency vet bill cured me of doing stuff like that.
Now I leave the grooming to an expert.

I only file Chy's toenails using a Dremel. I would never attempt to trim her beak. I leave that for the vet.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have a friend in China who had an AG (sadly it recently passed away) and, believe it or not, despite living in one of the largest cities in China, she says they have virtually NO avian doctors or bird grooming facilities available. It's really shocking especially considering they seem to sell parrots in various places. She had to learn to do everything herself with the beak trim being the least of it since she also essentially had to be their bird doctor. Very sad but makes me thankful to have such good care available here where I live. Lesson I guess is to take advantage of the great facilities we have available!
