Hi All I have seriously been considering getting an African Grey for many years, I have been given the opportunity to Re-Home a 6 year old male bird due to it's current owner being left with only weeks to live. I understand the bird has never been handled and bites when this is attempted, would it be possible to re train it to being handled or is it too late. I would love to take this bird and have lots of time to spend with it. Your thoughts and comments would be much appreciated.

Sounds like the bird is young enough you might just end up with a forever friend.
I would say otherwise if it had multiple owners and no bond.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time together even if just in the same room.
KUDOS for the rescue.

Thank you, I understand he talks quite well and make the sound of a phone so hopefully with a lot of TLC we can get him out and about.

It took 5 years for Beaker to quit biting my son and be pals.
When I first got him we could both handle him, but he is my buddy.
Things got a lot better when Beaker figured out that if he kept biting , my son wasn't going to play with him.
Like he just changed one day.... they are weird!
Drama queens too.

Welcome to the forum.
You will need to go slowly. Spend a lot of time with him. Give him treats and talk to him. Find his favourite treat before you let him out of the cage. You will need the treat to lure him back in the cage.
You may have more success with picking him up when he is on the ground.
We are here for any questions you may have.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Also, make sure you don't invade his space; they can be territorial. That might be why he was biting. Offer him treats and let him come to you.
