Manzi grew in a red bar in a back feather (like 4mm of the feather). I didn't think much of it. He's always had one red feather in his neck, but it is pretty buried and I only see it if I dig for it. But recently, someone mentioned that red feathers are a sign of liver disease. Anyone heard of this? Does anyone else have a grey that at 14 yrs old grew in a red or partial red feather?

There are other signs of liver disease such as weight gain, lethargy etc. Birds such as cockatiels and cockatoos are more prone to it than greys. I have never heard of an odd red feather being an indicator. If you are worried, a blood test would be able to reassure you.

Yeah, Manzi seems totally healthy otherwise. I won't bother the stress of a blood draw and vet visit unless he shows some other symptoms.
Haz, has Chyloe ever grown in a random red feather? This is the first I've seen since I've had him. I remember Jane saying that Monty's tail feather changed from shades of red to eventually all grey over many years.

No, she hasn't grown any red feathers other than where they are supposed to be. She does have a few pink feathers on her body under her wings.
As part of her regular checkups, Chy has blood tests every two years to make sure nothing is going wrong. The only complaint she has at the vet is that she says she wants to go home. Then when she has blood taken from her leg, she chews the bandage off before we get home.

One of Mitzi's feathers on the front of her neck/chest is partly pinkish red. I haven't noticed one like that on her before.
Monty's tail feather seems to vary between part red part grey and completely grey. It is currently completely grey.
