My 10 year old Grey is in intensive care. He is losing blood internally somewhere and the vet is trying to save him. On oxygen too. He is awake and knows us and we are going to visit him Monday and go from there. Vet has no idea what caused this. White blood cells very high. They ran blood tests but still unsure as to cause.

Hopefully your vet can save your grey. I know how difficult it is when they are sick, having lost a grey a few years back. Very difficult. Let us know how he is doing.

Got a call from the vet yesterday to inform me birdie passed. Still a mystery as to the cause. He was fine until all of a sudden became weak and unresponsive. The vet will do an autopsy to hopefully spread more light. If I hear any more, I will pass it along in the forum. I really appreciate all who were concerned. Thank you! Phil Swanson

We heard from the vet after the autopsy. There was a hard piece of some kind of a nut stuck in the intestine which had been there for a long time and was catching waste and formed a blockage. We can't figure out where this came from. Dr. said it was hard like a walnut shell but we never gave him walnut shells. Peanut shells and pistachio shells were not the cause because this shell fragment was dark. It could have been in for many years according to the vet. Lesson learned: Be careful of feeding your bird any kind of a nut with a shell other than a peanut soft shell.

I am so sorry for your loss. Our first grey died and I know how heartbreaking it is.
We don't even give peanuts in the shell because peanut shells can harbour mould which can make the bird very ill.

So sorry to hear this.
I am wondering if it had been there a long time the colour wouldn't necessarily be the colour it was to start with. Maybe it was something from a toy; they can sometimes contain nuts and other natural items.
