Hi all , loving this community. I’ve had my little guy ( Zeno ) for 8 months he is 11 months old now and just wondering if he will ever talk . Now I understand not all birds talk but just wondering about what time if they do does the talking start ? He whistles ( some sounds I’ve never heard ) like the cat whistle etc but no words yet . When did your guys birds begin to talk if they do ? Thanks for the help !

Welcome to the forum.
Different greys start talking at different times. I was lucky with both of mine. My first grey said hello at 6 months then didn't say anything else until he was 8 months old. He became a super talker. He would practise by mumbling before he came out with anything new.
Chyloe surprised us by coming straight out with sentences at 5 months. She doesn't practise but rather says anything she feels like saying. She's another super talker.
Some greys don't talk until they are a year old and others only start talking at two years old. If they don't talk by the time they are two, the chances are they will not talk.
Keep talking to Zeno to encourage him to talk to you.

Monty doesn't talk, he never has but he makes up for it with a lot of sqwawking and is very loud. He understands context so he will sqwawk loudly and repeatedly to say hello and bye bye.
Mitzi started at 5 months with "hello". She says quite a lot of things but she often drops words or phrases completely. She doesn't imitate any sounds though and she doesn't sing.

Manzi started with his first word around one year of age.
Jane, I didn't realize that Mitzi doesn't imitate any other noises or sing. Does she whistle at all? Both my whistle so much that I can't imagine a quiet one that only talks.

Adele - Mitzi doesn't whistle to any great extent although she does make other noises as a response to something. She also makes makes a sort of chirruping noise to attract my attention. This is usually when she wants various food items that she has in the evenings.

So would neighbors not be able to hear Mitzi? I still struggle picturing a Grey that quiet. It seems like Monty makes up for her quietness though. Does Mitzy ever tell him to shush?

Our cockatiel was much noisier than a grey. Max used to shout at her to be quiet.

Be careful what you wish for.
Beaker started to say words at about 18 months.
He "talks" but not that much.
His yelling is downright obnoxious.

Mitzi isn't loud enough to hear outside the house but Monty is. Indoors he often squawks loud enough to be uncomfortable for my ears. Mitzi does imitate laughter, which is very amusing. She does sometimes tell him to be quiet. (He takes no notice of her or me)

My first grey(Timneh), Manfred, came to us when he was 2. He didn't talk for about a year, just growled mostly. By the time he was 7-8 he was talking a quite a bit more. Not a super talker, but he didn't yell either. Sheeba talks all the time, and yells at us when we are working outside, she has an outdoor cage for the spring and summer. She will get a bit out of control with the yelling words if she has to go in the bedroom when we have guests over, mostly trying to get our attention/flock calling. She will do the bird squawks when outside, but inside it's loud words, sentences and laughter. Fortunately, she will talk very softly in the morning when we are still in bed, as if she knows we are still trying to sleep.
Don't give up, Zeno may eventually be a chatterbox. You never know. I've had several Amazons, the 2 that were the most bonded to me never talked. But that didn't matter at all.
