Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me with my pair. The cock bird is refusing to come out of the nest box and is sitting at the entrance the hen is still eating and drinking ok. When we acquired the birds we was told the cock was the biggest bird out of the two. Now I'm thinking otherwise I was a bit concerned so I offered food and water and it was excepted while the bird sat at the entrance to the nest box. We have had the pair for 18mths and this is a change in there behaviour I know greys are good at covering up illnesses but it is eating and drinking. Have we got the pair the wrong way round or has something else happened

Hello and welcome to the forum. In the wild the male protects the nest and feeds the female while she is incubating but I presume no eggs have been laid yet. If you look at the red tail, the underneath feathers of the tail have a delicate silver edging in adult females while the male tail is solid red.

Hey, I didn't know that about the tail feathers. Good to know. I don't know it this helps, but I have a pair of Quakers and one usually guards the nest box from time to time. I keep hoping it is a sign they will soon lay eggs. But they haven't yet. I've been told by an experienced breeder that my male is just now mature enough to mate since I got him as a baby. So like I said no much help here. But it could be just a behavior they all do.
